Automatic Slide Numbering

I have slide numbers on the master slides, so if I go to slide sorter view
and copy and paste a slide - the slide number appears on the newly created
slide.

But, when I "insert new slide" - no slide number appears.

Does anyone know how I can adjust the file so that if I "insert new slide"
page numbers appear?

Try going to the Headers and footers Dialogue
2007 Insert Headers & Footers or Slide No
earlier View > Headers & Footers

Tick Slide No and Apply to All

John, thanks. but that does not work. Oddly, what does work, is view -
headers and footers - checked "footer", typed in some random text, (did not
check slide number or date and time), now the slide numbers appear and also
when I insert new slide.

However, the random text that I typed (I could have typed the Gettysburg
address) - just doesn't appear.

I also notice a new empty text box on all of the slides.

Strange.
