INSERT CARD OR PRESS CTL ALT DEL, what card?

I have seen 2 new laptops with this login prompt. I don't know what the
"card" is but I assume it is an alternate form of authentication rather than
password. Can anybody shed some light on this?

Greetings --

It's called a "Smart Card," most often. It's an ID card with a
microchip embedded that contains the owner's relevant identification,
authentication, and security certificate information.

Right click network places then right click your network connection look
under authentication!
