Insatll Keys

I have 2 retail copies of xp home - one is a full version and the other is
the upgrade. Each has its own installation key. The PC's that they were
installed on no longer exist and have been broken up for spare parts.

I am selling the full retail copy on and wanted to make sure that the
correct key was in the correct box in case they had got mixed up somehow, so
installed it on a spare PC.

The full version installed OK., but then I found that the upgrade key was
also accepted. If I put an incorrect letter or number in one of the boxes I
got a message that it was an invalid key. It also accepted both keys when i
tried the upgrade version!

Are the keys interchangeable in this case, or will the anti piracy software
complain? As I said neither are installed on any PC. And I am totally
confused.

In the situation you describe as long as the keys are accepted during
install they will be fine. Of course you will need to completely remove the
version of XP you installed on the spare box before you can sell it.

Any XP Home CD will work with either of your keys. The CD is not the
point, its the version of the software, like Home, Pro, Media Center,
and then those combined with Retail or OEM.

I've never heard of upgrade or full being a problem. Some one will
correct me if that's wrong.
