Upgradeing from XP Media Center to XP Professional

I have a client who purchased a Media Center Edition PC and wanted to use it
in a SBS Server domain as a Clinent PC.

They do not need the AV features of Media Center but need the Networking
features Professional so We advised them thatthey had the wrong operating
system.

The client then went out and purchased an Upgrade version of Professional
off the retail shelf. durring the install process they are getting a "wrong
Key" error when enterign the KEy provided with their new Upgrade disk.

Is this a limit of the upgrade that it can't upgrade the media center
edition?

or

could microsoft have delivered an invalid KEY withthe upgrade disks?

I don't think you can upgrade MCE to XP Pro. They'll need to do an
uninstall/reinstall.

Have you given any thought to doing the "banana hack" to give it the ability
to join a domain? It might save some time, although with the banana hack I
don't know if that gives you cached credentials. You can join it to a domain
though.

There is no supported upgrade path from
Windows Media Center Edition to Windows
XP Professional. If you wish to install
Windows XP Professional, you'll need a
"Full Version" of Windows XP Professional
that must be installed as a "Clean Install".

Please note that you can use the "Upgrade
Version" of Windows XP Professional to
perform a "Clean Install", provided you have
an old Microsoft Windows 98 or 2000 CD
to use for qualifying during the setup phase.

After reading all the opther threads I would like to rephrase my question.

Windows Media Center Edition is NOT able to join a Domain.

You cannot join your computer to a domain in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

See the following article that shows how to access data on
a domain server:
