Inplace upgrade from Home to Pro

Andrew Hodgson

Hi,

I have a laptop with XP Home on it (preinstalled using recovery
disks). It contains all installed drivers, programs (eg Norton
Internet Security, DVD software etc).

I would like to upgrade to XP Professional so I can get the access to
the Windows Domain system.

I have a XP Professional license with a disk, however, it is an old
disk with no service packs.

I would like to know if it is possible to do an in-place upgrade of
the OS from home to professional and continue to keep the existing
drivers, applications etc intact?

Thanks.
Andrew.

It appears your version of Windows XP Pro
does not include SP2. To resolve this issue,
you can easily make a new Windows XP Pro
CD with SP2 slipstreamed in, then upgrade.

Either one of the following utilities makes slipstreaming
(integrating) SP2 into Windows XP a breeze:

or

AutoStreamer 1.0.33 (preferred)

If the installed XP Home has been upgraded to SP1 or 2 and the old XP Pro CD
has no service packs then you will get an error message complaining about an
older version trying to upgrade a newer version.

If you have a CD burner you can download the XP SP2 update and slipstream it
with the original XP Pro CD to make a new XP Pro w/SP2 image you then use to
burn an XP Pro w/SP2 CD. Then the new CD can then be used to upgrade the
Home install. Go here http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showforum=89 and
download AutoStreamer. It will get you through the process.

Or do a Google search on slipstreaming for additional info.
