Inoperable mouse and keyboard

Is there anything that I can do if my mouse and keyboard don't function?
I've tried changing keyboards and mice but it hasn't worked. The PC boots up
to the login screen page but no further. Any ideas would be greatly
appreciated.
 
Make sure that you haven't reversed the mouse and keyboard plugs at the back
of the computer.

Do you get any errors on the bios readout upon bootup?

It would be very unusual for both devices to fail at one time unless the
first thing listed above has happened.
