My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:
Galen
When you chose your nom de plume did you appreciate Galen
was interested in veterinary studies?
Some of his experiments were not very pleasant for the poor
creatures he used.
I did not. Galen is really my name. *chuckles* I was named after the Galen
you speak of, the "Father of Medicine" is whom my parents opted to name me
after. By the same token he was also doing eye surgery many years before
people even understood even the basics of what he was doing, was a
surgeon/doctor for the social elite, and some of his findings were in use
for a great long time as well as a few rare bits being taught in schools
today.
I can only imagine what would have been 'acceptable practice' to do to
animals back then! (Not that I justify his actions - I just don't know what
he did or the views/morals he was given and as such can't really say I'm
capable of judging.) Until you mentioned it I had no idea (though it wasn't
something I'd really thought about) that he'd even been at all interested in
animal medicine.
As an odd aside, have you ever tried to buy a pen from a generic stationary
store with my name on it? Ah well... I'll take a gander at the results from
a search engine and see what they have to say on the subject but it will
likely have to wait until I've had a wee bit of sleep. Thanks for the idea
for the search (unless you already have some resources handy) as that's
something that I really enjoy.
