incoming email server internal error

Hi Everyone -

I hope someone can help me resolve the following error message. I am
installing MS Office 2003 Small Business Edition on a new Dell Inspiron 6000.


"Task 'Account Name - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC90): 'Your incoming
(POP3) e-mail server has reported an internal error. If you continue to
receive this message, contact your server administrator (that would be me) or
Internet service provider (ISP). The server responded: -ERR Unable to open
message 1.'

Here's what I have done so far....

- Reconfigured user account in Outlook.
- Uninstalled Norton Internet Security and Turned off Windows Firewall.
- Installed and reinstalled MS Office 2003, including required updates from
MS Office website.
- Changed password on mail server and in user account in case PW was
corrupted.
- Turned on log function (text at end of this message).

Other facts:
- I can telnet successfully into the POP3 server port 110 using the Dell.
- I can access the web from the Dell (in fact posting this message using it).
- I can successfully retrieve email using these email account settings in
Outlook on another computer.

I am beginning to think that I have a corrupted version of Outlook, but does
anyone else know of any other potential fixes based on this information and
the log below?

Folks -

Turns out there was a corrupt email on the server which was in position
number 1. For some reason Outlook 2002 ignored it, but 2003 did not. My ISP
was able to delete it. All systems now go.
