Inbox mystery

Send/Receive SEEMS to work (no error messages), but nothing ever shows up in
the inbox. Problem identical on two different desktops. Checking via webmail
confirms messages were succussfully sent and received by the account.

Here's more background:
Home network with 2 VHB dekstops, each using WM to access the same mail
account. Time Warner Cable internet. After setting up the account on each
machine, I imported address book and messages from OE6 folders on the old
machines that were replaced.

Here's what I've tried:
Deleted Windows Mail folders under user account and let Vista
recreate...didn't work.
Checked view settings...already set to "View All Messages"
Uninstalled AVG antivirus...no change
Installed Thunderbird...works fine

I could just stick with Thunderbird, but this has become an interesting
challenge. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Make sure all computers checking the same email account are
configured to leave a copy on the server:
Tools, Accounts, select your mail account, Properties, Advanced,
enable "Leave a copy of messages on server."

I don't understand how checking via webmail confirms that the account
has sent messages. How were those messages sent?

Hi Gary...

I'm afraid they are already both set to leave mail on the server.

What I did was send a message to myself via WM, and check for it to come
back in via WM. Having still not received it after several minutes, I went
to the web mail account (same address), checked the mail, and there it was.
Did this a few times.

OK, I just wanted to make sure that sending from WM was working
for you.

If you are sure the account is set up correctly, and it seems to be since
there is no error message, verify whether your mail provider has a
special web setting to enable POP email. Some (like Gmail) require
that. Which provider is it?
Incidentally, Gmail also does not allow you to download a message
you sent to yourself.

Thanks Gary. The provider is Time Warner Cable/Roadrunner in the Greensboro,
NC area. I'll check the available settings in account management to see if
there is anything there that might be interfering. I've migrated a few people
to WM from OE here and never run into this before.

Gary

Well, it turns out that my customer created a message rule to "leave mail on
the server". He was looking for the "leave a copy on the server" setting and
thought this was the way to do it. Live and learn. Thanks again for your
support!
