"Impossible" Printer Sharing Problem!

Days ago, I had perfect printer sharing between my XP and ME computers,
through a Linksys router. I uninstalled the old printer & drivers on both
systems then installed a new Canon MP600 onto the ME unit, and drivers on
both. The ME (host) unit works great, but the XP system can't get to the
printer. HOWEVER, file sharing works fine, both Workgroups are the same,
File & Printer sharing is enabled on the ME unit, but still no printer
sharing! The XP can "see" the printer in the Control Panel\Printers & Fax
area, but doesn't want to hook up. This is crazy -- it worked before, why
not now. I thought I knew this stuff. What can I try, what am I missing?
No firewalls are in place except for the XP firewall -- which can't be the
problem. Please comment! Thanks.

Did you forget to actually share the printer..... On the ME PC, Control
Panel, Printers & Faxes, Right click on the printer, Properties... Sharing
tab.... make sure there are NO SPACES in the shared name. If you must have
a gap, use an underscore.

Cari !!!!!!!!!!!!

Even before I read your reply, it came to me in half-sleep last night: to
change the NAME of the printer on the host computer. That's it -- it works!
Then I read your reply and saw your comment about spaces in the printer's
name. (I changed the name from Canon MP600 to Canon). Works like a charm
now.
However, unless I missed it in the small print somewhere and on the web,
there is no mention of this. That's depressing. All I read in a thousand
articles (?) was the simple "sharing" radio button, same Workgroup, and all
that general stuff. But.... it works. Maybe I can solve the rest of the
world's problems while half asleep! And thanks for your kind reply. You
MVPs are totally cool.
