Importing DBX Files into Outlook Express

Guest

I am attempting to import outlook messages into outlook express v6, I follow
the prompts under import mail messages, browse to the identities folder, pick
the relevant identity, yet I keep getting this message "No Messages can be
found in this folder or another application is running that has the required
files open. Please select another folder or try closing application that may
have the files open." I have checked read only, the *.dbx files are on my
HDD. Any ideas - Bots

Hi Inktec :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

How to backup restore or transfer OE messages and settings:

Note that there is also a link in this article to MVP David Guess's free

or.....

How to move messages in OE

Open My Documents in the right pane of Windows WExplorer.
In the left pane make the Stationery (note spelling) folder visible.
Drag the files from the right pane to the Stationery folder.

also....if you have XP:

Upgraded from...?

Tools>Options>Maintenance>Store folder will reveal the location of your
current Identity's store. Write it down.

In WindowsXP, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as
hidden. To view these files in Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files
and Folders under Start>Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

If running OE5+ before, in Explorer, search for .DBX files. Any found which
are not located in your current store will most likely be those from your
OE5 Identity. You can Import them using File>Import>Messages....

If running OE4 before, in Explorer, search for .MBX and .IDX files. Follow
these steps to import the data into OE6:
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/faqs/how.htm#importOE4

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Jan :)

If you go to that identity can you see the messages?
