Importing Contacts From Old Computer

I transferred all my contacts from Microsoft Outlook on my old laptop
(Windows XP) onto a safe home network before I went out and got my new laptop
(Windows Vista Home Premium). I've tried to import my contacts onto the new
laptop from the network but the contacts won't open up. My assumption for
this happening is because of the file type. The old contacts are under the
file type .MSG while the the new contacts are unde the file type .contact.
This said, the import feature in Windows Mail from Windows Vista won't
re-format my old contacts. Any suggestions?

Get the old laptop out and transfer all your contacts from Outlook to
Outlook Express. Once that's done, either export contacts from Outlook
Express to a .CSV file or simply copy the Outlook Express .WAB file to your
Vista laptop and import with Windows Mail. I've found that just double
clicking a .WAB file launches the Windows Mail contact import function.

Hi, Hal,

I've seen your input on a couple of threads and you seem to be on top of
your game (for this IT wannabee, anyway!). The two explanations I've seen
very similar but I'm going to add a twist as I can't see how to apply them to
my situation.

When I received Vista as part of a new laptop purchase (hurray!), I learned
that Vista wasn't reading Outlook/OE. The roving IT fix-it kid that
transferred most of my other data recommended that I transfer all the Outlook
info to a secondary 'user' on the Vista machine, which I've done. I've been
attempting to get that information from one user to the other on the same
computer. The primary user is running Mail and the secondary user is running
Microsoft Office Outlook.

I've just tried again and seem to be close. I exported my Microsoft Office
Outlook 2003 Contacts files, saved as '.pst' files, into a zipped folder and
attached them to an email I sent to myself. The email arrived but when I
attempt to open/extract the folder, I'm told access has been blocked due to
'virus-carrying-email' concerns. I can't find an answer anywhere else in my
investigations.

Can I simply enable opening of the attachment? It's certainly not carrying
any viruses that I'm aware of.

Many thanks for your assistance....whenever you can get to it.
