Images from the net ?

Hi y'all

Can anyone tell me what might have happened to my PC? up until today, if i
went on the web, right clicked on an image and selected "save picture as..",
then i would get a viewable copy of that image saved on my system. Now when i
do the same operation, i get 'something' (the icon looks like a file pic)
saved but it is no longer viewable either with Windows pic and fax viewer or
adobe or anything else. I get "unrecognised format" or something similar. The
pics have all been jpeg or bitmap, but now i simply cannot seem to save them
in recognised format.
