I'm using vista.mail, but like to try outlook again, but it freezes right away

I always used outlook 2003 in Win XP Pro, then I got a new computer and I
installed my registered version of Microsoft Office 2003 on my new computer
running Vista Home Premium. Then I found out that I was not able to get
attachments in Outlook from anybody that had me in the Cc as a recipient. It
did work as long as I was the only reciepient though. So I thought so what, I
will use vista.mail, because it allows me to use the newsgroups as well. It
reminded me on Outlook Express. Now I miss using Outlook again, and I
clicked on the icon, and right away Outlook freezes, and I can't get the
cursor on to the Outlook desktop, it will stay all around my other desktop,
but will not go to Outlook. Have they changed things in Outlook on my
present OS so I will be able to look at attachments from my friends? and how
do I get Outlook to respond again. Maybe I need to turn something off or on
in either Outlook or Vista. Your help is much appreciated...Grandpa Peter

Well, there's nothing in either Outlook 2003 or Vista that would prevent you
from receiving attachments when you're a CC: recipient. Outlook 2003 is
compatible with Vista and, on my Vista Ultimate PC, it operates exactly as
it did on Windows XP-SP2. Did you move your old data file from the XP
machine to the Vista machine? If so, how did you go about it (there is a
correct way and several INCORRECT ways to do this)?

Do you have an AntiVirus or AntiSpam application on your Vista PC that is
setup to scan email? The symptoms you describe suggest either an AV scanner
problem or a damaged Outlook profile.

You might try using Outlook's Detect and Repair feature to validate your
installation - 'Help|Detect and Repair...'. If you have an AV application
scanning your email, you need to disable this feature; in most cases, this
means uninstalling the application, then doing a "Custom" re-install WITHOUT
any email scanning modules.

Hello Hal......Thanks first of all for helping me, I appreciate you very
much. When I got the new computer I had Norton on it as well as when I
installed and used Outlook. The person that told me about the Cc was
another highly knowledgeable person like you, so I had no problem believing
him at that time. I since got rid of Norton and purchased AVG, and I am very
happy with this program. I actually never tried to move all my Outlook
information from my old computer to the new one, I wanted to start clean. I
just installed Outlook 2003 and tried it, and it worked swell in the
beginning except for the Cc attachments, then I stopped using it, and I
started to use vista.mail.
I will try what you suggested here, repair the install, and then if that
doesn't work I will uninstall it and reinstall it. If you don't mind, and
have the time to let me know how I can properly switch the PST file, or any
other method to my new computer to work with Outlook 2003 again I would
appreciate that very much. Peter

After you uninstalled Norton, did you run this cleanup program to take
care of what the uninstall left behind?

Did you install AVG with the standard install? If so, for the free version,
we
would recommend that you uninstall it and then do a custom install that
tells
it to leave out the part that scans email. I don't know if you can also do
this
with paid version and still keep it in paid version status.

I did what was suggested, and Outlook is working wonderful except, from two
accounts, where I get mail from I can't see nothing but writing, and no
pictures or formatted text. When I look at the letter, it says Plain Text
behind the email header. I looked in my Office 2003 preferences or where
ever it may be said that I like to receive email in plain text etc, or from
people that are in the enemy camp, nothing that shows that I like to receive
email from these guys in Plain Text. Is it there problem sending me stuff in
plain text? Both use XP Pro and argue with me about their sending format.
Other people however, that are on the same list have no problems getting
pictures and formatted email. What in the heck can that be. I can live w/o
their email to be honest, but I think there are things you wonderful people
can help me with I know it.....Grand pa (Opa) Peter

You're likely to get more help with Outlook if you ask in one of the
newsgroups meant for Outlook, such as:

microsoft.public.outlook.general
microsoft.public.outlook

Mention which version of Outlook you are using, and that it is running
under Vista, in case it matters.

That should be 'Tools|Options|Preferences|E-mail Options|Read all standard
mail in Plain Text format'; if this box is checked, everything is converted
to plain text with no text formatting or pictures. If it is NOT checked and
you're still getting everything in plain text, you might need to create a
new Outlook profile; sadly, these can be damaged fairly easily:
