Many problem reports have been reported following application of security update 908531, released on April 11.

IF you are having problems listed below, or somewhat similar problems:

. Unable to access special folders like "My Documents" or "My Pictures".
. Microsoft Office applications may stop responding when you attempt to save or open Office files in the "My Documents" folder.
. Office files in the "My Documents" folder are not able to open in Microsoft Office.
. Opening a file through an application's File / Open menu causes the program to stop responding .
. Typing an address into Internet Explorer's address bar has no effect.
. Right-clicking on a file and selecting Send To has no effect.
. Clicking on the plus (+) sign beside a folder in Windows Explorer has no effect.
. Some third-party applications stop responding when opening or saving data in the "My Documents" folder.

Hi, Maurice. Hope you don't mind me adding this bit:

If the manual fix seems daunting, MVP Kelly Theriot has once again
worked her magic and written an automated fix for the HP problem. You
can get it here:

I just ran Kelly's script and it cured my 'copy' proble. Thanks. I was
nervous about the registry editing myself.

This great update managed to screw the right click menu completely. No more
"encryption" selection there created by Pointsec ME.

Any fix to be expected?

From information I saw this morning, HP and Nvidia have updated drivers
to address the problems with their software. Check on their sites.

I'm unclear as to the scope of your context menu problem. Does all of it not work, or, just for Pointsec ME?

If you have an Nvidia graphics card on your computer, see if the computer also has Nview Desktop context menu.
Get the "ShellEXView" utility from this link
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html .

Install it & run it to find out whether you have NView Desktop context menu.

If you do see it listed in ShellEXView, then "disable" it. Then see if your problems stop.

Do post back with your findings.

Here's what's new.

MS article had a new revision on April 19th.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

You'll notice a slight difference in the registry tweak of the HP Share-to-Web daemon for systems running Windows 2000 versus Win XP or Win Server 2003.

Updated post at Aumha.net to include tip on "Nview Desktop context menu" for computers that have Nvidia graphics card.
I wish to thank Dmitry & Allen for sharing their knowledge at the Windows Update forum.

That tip does not apply if you do not have an Nvidia card, or, if you do not have the Nview context menu. And it's intended as a possible work-around.
