IEXPLORE.EXE ??

Z

Z.

I get a message that IEXPLORE.EXE wants to access the internet.

Is this a real MS program since IE6 is already accessing the internet?

+++++++++++

On another computer the IE5 has been hijacked & will not go to the Microsoft
site. It also shuts down after a few minutes.
It will not show IE in the list of programs that are installed, so I can not
remove it.

I can not install IE6 from my CD as the computer then wants to dial out. I
used the RUN method to download IE6 from another computer & burn it to a CD.
I tried from the CD & from a folder on the computer. Each wants to dial
out.

I used the regedit to remove all instances of IE5. Used Explore to remove
all temp, history files for IE5

It still wants to dial out when I try to install IE6

Run a full virus scan on the infected computer. Make sure you have the
latest definition table.

What is running at start up
Run MSCONFIG from the start/run applet and look under StartUp tab.

Anything not familiar with should be disable.
Leave Explorer, systray, firewall and virus protection ON.

Find out what the others are.

Rule out parasites.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

If you use a HOSTS file, beware of this new issue.
Ad-Aware has decided to include a new detection when scanning the HOSTS
file. This now creates a "Bad hosts file entry" in the log file generated at
the end of a scan. The best thing to do is to place a check in each entry,
right-click and select: "Add selection to ignorelist". Otherwise if you let
AWW "fix" these items it will trash the HOSTS file! Even if you have it
"locked" by [example] SpywareBlaster or Winpatrol. It does not return the
attributes and renames the HOSTS file incorrectly to hosts.

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Run a search on your computer for iexplore.exe. Provided you have the service
pack, you should have three copies of the program. IE6 in it's own directory,
the copy in the service pack, and the copy in the uninstall folder. All three
files should be the same (check the size, 89K).

If you have any others, in different sizes, they should be highly suspect.
Update you virus scanner and run it.

To get the full version of IE6, download and run iesetup.exe from a computer
*other than XP*. Use the setup program to download the browser for your
operating system.
