IE7 will not link to external apps since update

Nigel Andrews

Since running the regular MS updates recently I now find that IE7 will not
link to external apps.
Links to Adobe files will not run Adobe Reader in a new window, in fact it
causes ALL IE windows to close!
Links to an email address will not open up a new Outlook Express message
window it just prompts that the mail client is not properly installed
Links to audio files will not run their respective audio app' i.e.,
RealPlayer

Any ideas please?

Thanks

Nigel

Have you removed the recent updates (saying you ran the "regular MS
updates"doesn't help much. What updates get installed depends on the
particular system.) Most can be removed from Add/Remove programs. After
all the can be removed that way are removed, then finish with a System
Restore to the restore point made before the first update was installed.
Does that fix the issues? If so do the updates one at a time until you find
the one causing the problems, then look through the posts in and if needed
post to the windows update newsgroup for help with that update.
