Tabbed browsing ie7

Tabbed browsing seems to have stopped working in ie7 for some reason,I
haven't installed any new programs or made any changes, basically what
happens when I click on a link ie tries to load the page in a new tab,in the
same window, but it causes the program to stop responding, when pressing
ctrl+alt+del, no programs are seen running in applications, I have to go into
processes and end iexplore.exe to close it, I've run AVG antivirus, Spybot,
Ad-aware and no problems found, if I go into tools-internet options in ie,
then go the tabs settings changing this to 'open links in a new window' works
no problem, but I'd ideally like the tabs to open in the current window. I've
thought about hitting the reset button for ie but am worried I'll end up with
more problems.....thanks in advance for any suggestions.....

You should ask about this in an internet explorer newsgroup like
microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general.
