Has anyone else had a problem with animated GIF's causing very high CPU use
and slowing the system down?

Is there a solution?

I've seen this with one of mine:
http://webpages.charter.net/dwarner2/HighEffBolt25.gif

If you right click it and select Properties, it will run at normal
speed, even after the properties sheet is closed.
The wierd thing is that it plays OK when embedded in a message on a
Vbulletin discussion board.

My solution to the problem: Firefox, which also doesn't have any
mouse wheel lag/overrun.

Yes, the CPU use does go back to normal after bringing up the properties
sheet.... odd.
