ie6 will not run from desktop

Hello . Great if someone can help with this incredibly annoying problem.

My ie6 will not launch from desktop or the shortcut bar or from links in a
webpage where they redirect to open a new browser . I can get a webpage from
Windows Explorer , and therefore can only have one webpage open at a time .

I have tried Ad-Aware , Spybot S&D and HijackThis . Spybot gets Alexa
related and HijackThis gets some things , but nothing that seems sinister .

I have also tried the ie6 reinstall as recommended in this group BUT it does
not completely remove ie6 in Win2k , just looks for new files .

The module name in the error is shell32.dll .This has been referred to in
other threads on other topics .

I know others have faced similar problems , but if someone has a solution ,
please can they let us know . Can the only answer be an OS install . ?

There are a few more things to check at

You've been pretty thorough, but did you post a HijackThis log to one of the
forums? The HijackThis forum at http://forum.mvps.org is low-traffic. Your
thread will be easy to find.

If you uncheck "Enable third party browser extensions" (Internet Options>
Advanced) does IE work? That would indicate that malware is causing the
problem. Any unidentifiable BHOs in HijackThis?

Have you run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Don , thanks for replying .
Yes I have tried both the ""Enable third party browser extensions" uncheck
and updated and run CWShredder .

I have not posted my hijackthis log , but thanks for the pointer . I will do
so in the morning .
