Internet desktop shortcuts not working

When I place a webpage shortcut on my desktop it will sometime work but
then stop working after a few weeks or not work at all. I can copy and
paste the url from the shortcut into opened ie6 address bar and it
will work. After the page opens I then create another shortcut on
desktop and it won't work. No other problems. I have XP Pro SP2
updated. I run AdAware/Norton and AVG. Any Ideas?

Hi zal

First try the following and see if it helps:

Repair shortcuts

Type the command in the RUN box:
REGSVR32 /i SHDOCVW

If still no joy......

Download and apply the shortcut file assocation fix from here:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/linkfile_fix.zip
Save to the hard drive, extract the file, double-click to install and answer
YES when prompted.
