IE6 very slow/stops responding

I

Ian Mizon

I am running windows 98SE, and IE6. For some time now, I
have found my browser IE6 to be very slow, and stops
responding, for up to one or two minutes.
I downloaded Netscape, and found it very fast, with no
lack of response like IE6.
Does anybody know why IE6 should be very slow and stop
responding all the time?

All we seem to get is the link:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Which is useless, since I've done all that. It has been my experience that
the content of certain sites (www.theweatherchannel.ca for example) kill the
browser (100% cpu), while others (fark.com, google.ca, etc. etc.) don't. I
dual boot between XP home and pro (with the same SPs and hotfixes), and
don't experience the problems with pro at all. I'd like a real answer to
this problem.

I was having the same slowed down browser problem, with it not connecting to some sites at all, I might add. I took your suggestion and browser responded very well - speed is normal now

thank you!!

Just seen a couple of replies to my problem. One suggested
that Norton Anti Virus is causing my browser to work slow.
I have NAV 2002. I just disabled the Auto Protect, and
already I see an improvement in the speed of my IE6.
Anybody else use Norton with this IE6 problem?

Ian,
The problem may be due a setting in NAV. Change the autoprotect setting
one at a time to see what is slowing you down.
