IE6 Reinstall?

After getting rid of a hijacker I find that my IE6 no
longer connects to many sites. "Cannot display Page" and
shows http:/// in the address bar. I would like to re-
install IE6, I have the CD. But the system won't let
me: "newer version detected" displayed and re-install
stops. I can't seem to figure out how to Un-install the
version of IE6 so I can Re-install my earlier version.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Groggy,

You can't re-install because there's a value in your registry that's
preventing the installation. Basically, when you start the installation, the
Windows installer looks at your registry, specifically the computer's
installed components. If Internet Explorer is found, the Windows installer
won't let you install the program because the program already exists.
