Followed Q318378, still can't re-install ie6

I'm helping a friend who deleted some ie6 files. When she tried to re-install
ie6, she got "setup has detected newer version of IT.....".

I then followed the article "How to reinstall or repair IE in Win XP",
particularly the steps under "Edit the registry and intall IE". However, when
we tried to reinstall (after re-booting) we still got the same error.

Help! Does anyone have any ideas? Are the directions different for XP Home
Edition?

Thanks

Hi Linda :)

Kelly's site has a fix which changes the IsInstalled flag value to 0. =

For SP1 -
This enables reinstallation of IE.
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/ieinstall.reg

Just download and double-click, then proceed to reinstal IE.

For SP2 -
If you have SP2, you will first have to uninstall it. Then run the utility
as descripbed above.
Ieinstall.reg simply makes the registry edit that's called for in the 2nd
half of
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378

or ..
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm (line 114, right)

Hope this helps.
