IE6 problem cable modem

K

kevin

I recently reinstalled Windows ME, and since then have
been unable to connect to the internet through my cable
ISP. The ISP said the problem isn't on their end and I
have to reinstall IE6. I reinstalled IE6 and still have a
problem. Is there anything else I should be doing with IE6
to instruct it to go through the cable modem?

Thanks

There can be a lot of different issues to look at. It might be best to call
a technician out to your house and trouble shoot it.

Here are some things to consider first. Are you getting a strong signal to
your cable modem? How many TV's are connected to that cable line? I have a
direct line from my cable box on the outside of my house to my cable modem.
There are no other devices attached to the cable (TVs or VCRs). Is your
network card working correctly? If you are connected via usb, is the usb
installed correctly? You can check with the place where you bought the cable
modem for assistance.

Once you determine you have a signal to your computer, then, you can
troubleshoot your computer connections. Once again, read the instructions
that came with your cable modem. They should tell you how to set up your
connections. Most cable companies have different settings from each other.
Get on another computer and go to their website for help.

Sorry I can't be more specific. Hard to be with limited information to work
with.

Hope this helps you get started.

Kevin,
Did your ISP cable modem come with an Istallation CD? Did you reinstall the drivers for the modem on your PC?

On my Win98, when the Cable Modem was connected via USB, there was a listing for the cable modem in the device manager, and drivers had to be installed from ISP or Modem CD, when I reinstalled the OS. Also did you reinstall the Network card drivers?

Check the device manager to see if there are an error(s) there?
