IE6 not closing

B

bruce

IE 6 has decided not to close properly. It seems to
close normally, but when shutting down computer warnings
that IEXPLORE>EXE is still running appear and has to be
ended manually. Several of these appear if IE6 has been
opened several times in a session.
Using XPpro Sp1 with latest updates for both XP and IE6.
Have usual NIS NAV Adaware and Spybot to complicate
matters, but none of these changed recently and was
working fine.
Also have problems with java downloads. Tried switching
MS VM off in IE internet options and using latest Sun
Java but did not help, so have unistalled Sun Java and
restored internet options to previous settings. No help.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Bruce

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each need to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
