IE6 goes to web sites but you can't sign up or buy anything

I am trying to help someone on XP SP2 that just got on the internet with
Earthlink dial-up. He can go to any web site, but if he tries to purchase
anything, it immediately goes to the standard PAGE NOT FOUND screen. I even
tried to login to Amazon.com but got the same problem just trying to ligin.
Here at home I have no problems. I have checked all of the security settings,
cookies, advanced options and the encoding and all are fine. Any ideas??

Many finance/purchase sites are Https. It's possible the Security software
may have a Proxy address that cannot handle Https protocol. I'd double
check the Security software for any Proxy handled protocols.

Many sites are using new protocols and such that IE6 doesn't understand.
First make sure you have all of your updates installed and if it still
doesn't work you may need to install IE7.

An alternate explanation is this: There are just too many websites
today that are over-bloated. With a dial-up connection, there are
overlay components and addresses within the websites that are timing
out, resulting in the failure to complete the download and display the
page. IE7 is not the solution...a faster connection, such as DSL.
