Computer Won't Save Sign-In Info to Favorite Sites

I recently signed up for Verizon DSL. It works well, but I find that
when I sign in to a frequently visited site, such as Amazon.com,
Google, and others that I visit frequently, it will not save my sign-
in information from session to session. I check the "remember me"
boxes on these sites but when I turn my computer off, the cookies that
save the information to these trusted sites, vanish. I have spent
many hours on the phone with Verizon and have tried all the usual
remedies they recommend, (Internet Explorer Privacy settings and
cookie enabling, Autocomplete, listing the sites I want to allow
cookies to be saved to, eliminating temporary files, turning the
firewall on and off, etc. etc.) Nothing works.

Anybody have any further recommendations? Any troubleshooting I
haven't tried. The problem started when I switched to Verizon, so my
hunch is that it is somehow related to that. Thanks.

What version of Internet explorer are you using? Do all your cookies
dissapear when you shut down? Maybe your browser is configured to clear
cookies when closed. I will look around for some answers.

You can also use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer, it is a great, secure
browser. Just google "Firefox"

Using IE 7. Yes, all cookies disappear when I shut down. Browser is
not configured to clear cookies when closed. It's something that the
various tech reps I spoke to are at a loss to explain. Appreciate
your looking for answers. Thanks.

Just tried it with Firefox and it works! Still doesn't work on IE, so
now I'll be devout Firefox user. Many thanks for the suggestion.

Glad Firefox is working, I have been a devout Firefox user for years now, it
is a great browser (although the more recent versions like to hog up memory
while it is in use)

It sounds like Verizon installed some kind of security software that is
cleaning out the cookies whenever you close IE, do you see any kind of
"Verizon" software installed on your machine? Did they install any
anitvirus/antispyware programs, if so they may be set to clean up IE.

I would just stick with Firefox though.

Followed your advice again. Uninstalled Verizon Security Center and
the problem has now gone away on IE also. Many, many thanks.

No problem, glad I could help. I can't believe no Verizon tech's would
realize they installed their own security software and that was causing the
problem!

You still need some security with your high speed connection, make sure your
computer is up to date by running Windows Update regularly, make sure the
Windows firewall is on (go to start > control panel > security center), and
be sure to run an antivirus program and several anti spyware programs.

I use AVG free for antivirus and spybot search and destroy and Ad-aware for
spyware. Good luck
