IE6 Favorites Pane

When IE6 comes up it always displays a Favorites pane on the left side of
the screen. How can I disable this 'feature'?

In IE go to View > point to Explorer Bar > uncheck Favorites.

This removes the Favorites pane after IE comes up. What can I do so that the
Favorites pane never appears in the first place?

I have Win98 SE, IE6 and OE6

If I go to View > Point to Explorer Bar < select Favorites > I get the
favorites column on the left side of the screen continuously, but the
favorites column ceases to show once I uncheck favorites, whether or not
IE is closed or open.
