All of a sudden IE6 will not open normally, when i click on icon instead of
opening it puts an item in lower toolbar, i then have to right click to get a
choice of what to do. I have to click on to restore and then all works
normally. Any ideas please?

Which lower toolbar ? Restore on which item ? Are you talking about shortcut to IE6
or a shortcut to a url (website) ?

Good Luck, Ayush.

Good Luck, Ayush.

I used to click on explorer icon on desktop and my home page would come up
on screen. Now it does not happen instead a block comes up on status bar at
bottom of screen then by right clicking on this a box opens up with several
options, one being restore. If i click on this my home page comes up and
explorer works normally.

You mean that when you double click on IE6 icon, a tab opens in taskbar that is
minimized, right ?
If yes, then click on the tab to restore the window and close it by using File|Close.
then try the shortcut again.

Good Luck, Ayush.

Yes a tab opens in task bar and left clicking on it does nothing, which as
you say used to open up if you had minimumised. I have to right click and
then take the restore option.

Although you are asking in the wrong group, so please in the future if you
have a Question about IE6/7 please post in the IE group to get the most
useful answer.
That said, try this:
Right click the IE Icon and select Properties, on the Internet Explorer
Properties click on ShortCut Tab then you will find these Input Textboxes;

Target : [" C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORER.EXE" ]
Start In: [ %HOMEDRIVE%HOMEPATH% ]
ShortCut Key: [ None ]
Run: Normal Window ][v] if you
click the drop down arrow you will be able to change if was something else

If you can get that then go to the Windows Explorer and click on Tools >>
Folder Options and click on File Type.
scroll down to IE ShortCut it will be like this:
[e] (NONE) ShortCut highlight it and click Advanced Button.

All the entries are OK going in from all files but clicking on there still
produces the same effect. Still have to right click and select restore.
I have just found that if i select IE using SANDBOXIE, if you are familiar
with this isolation programme, it opens normally. It must mean that something
on the computer is stopping it from opening normally. Any ideas of the best
way to track this down would be appreciated.

Regs,

Found the answer it was caused by me, i had somehow entered IE into a
programme i use called NO ADS this stopped IE opening also affected the right
click (save target as) which had stopped working weeks ago. Thanks for your
efforts.

I thought there is a software controlling somewhere, so I blamed the
Sandboxie as it could act as a blocker for programs.
Glad you did find the culprit and thanks for the feedback much appreciated.
Good luck.
Regards,
nass
