IE6 closing when I open up another page.

I had installed IE7 but I had to remove it due to my husband’s company web
site will not support IE7 in order for him to work from home. Prior to
installing IE7 he was able to access the site and open up PDF files (which
contain reports for to review). Now that I have IE6 I get an error when ever
he attempts to open up the PDF files. It is the following error message:
MS IE has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience. If you are in the middle of something, the information you are
working on might be lost.
I click to see what the error was and it is the following:
Appname: iexplor.exe
Appver: 6.0.2900.2180
Mod nam: MSVCR71.dll
Modver: 7.10.3052.4
Offset: 000017fb.

I called HP to see if they could help me. I was on the phone for 2 hours and
they were not to resolve. They want me to back up my files and wipe out my
hard drive to reset it. I really don’t want to this. I followed the info
that was posted earlier this week by PA bear. I went to MS link and did what
it stated and still I the error. I also did the windows live onecare and it
corrected a bunch of items, but still I have the darn error. Is there a cure
for this issue?? Can someone please help me solve this issue w/o wiping out
my hard drive?

Thanks,
Nellie
