ie6 needs to close

i get the internet explorer needs to close encountered a problem error
whenever ie6 tries to open.
it has this signature.
appname: iexplore.exe
appver: 6.0.2900.2180
modname: ws2_32.dll
modver: 5.1.2600.2180
offset: 00004292

any ideas?
