IE6 can't download exe files

G

Ghost

The problem I have is that I cannot download ANY
*.exe files. I have checked everything I know of, including
going through my security settings, did all of the Win2K
updates, but nothing fixes this problem. I also disabled
Norton to make sure it wasn't blocking it. When I click on
an *.exe file to download, a box pops up that says
"Getting File Information" and then it just sits there until
it times out when I get an error message that says something
like "Internet Explorer could not open page". I have NO
problem downloading using Netscape which I installed after
I started having this problem.

HELP !!!!

I've had the same problem for a couple of weeks now. IE
won't download, Netscape downloads with no problem. The
error message I receive is, "Internet explorer cannot
download..... . Internet Explorer was not able to open
this site. The requested site is either unavailable or
cannot be found. Please try again later." This happens
with .exe files, zip files, everything!

I need help too!

Guess you can add me to the list with this problem...
I've been looking for an answer or explanation also. My problem is odd in
that if I log on with another account on the same machine (XP Home edition)
I Can download using IE from that account. This seems to indicate that
something could be messed up in my IE profile for my account. That's just a
guess and it is the case I have no idea how to fix it.....

Any ideas?

I also have the same problem with Windows 98 SE. I was
given advice about a week ago to go into Internet Tools,
delete cookies and files, and then go into Settings and
restore the default. That would enable me to download
until I clicked on Back to go to a previous page and then
I'd have to go through the same thing again in Tools. A
couple days ago even this didn't help and now I'm unable
to download anything at all, same as the person below, no
zip, exe, palm software, etc. HELP ME, PLEASE! I can't
understand why this isn't addressed in Microsoft's
Troubleshooting pages. It sounds like a fairly common
problem to me.
Thank you so much to anyone who knows what to do to fix
this.
Julie
