IE6 Cache Problem

C

Carl M. Thomas

I used Ad-Aware the other day as I have frequently in the past and let it
delete whatever it found that it didn't like. It seems to have taken all my
cookies (even the ones it didn't indicate it would take) and now I can't get
cookies to save and none of the web pages and figures are cached. Since I
frequently use the cache to revisit some pages and move them into a real
folder when I want to save them, this has become a real problem. None of
the obvious settings in Tools -> Internet Options... -> General -> Settings
have changed, but something sure has. Anybody have any ideas?

TIA

Carl

.
try another browser, like Avant browser,it's free from
www.download.com
put avant in the search and download it,It's got every
option that 6.0 has and more!If you don't like it
add/remove will take it out.

Hi, Frank

Thanks for the reply, but it didn't quite hit the mark. I may not have been
clear, so let me try again. The cookies really are in the \Cookies
directory. They also were once visible in the Temporary Internet Files
(TIF) folder as were the files cached during a site visit (actually in the
hidden subfolders, but listed in the TIF folder window). The cookies no
longer show up there. Very few of the cached files show anymore. When I
used an old DOS program that ignored XPs filename settings, many of the
files were apparently there in the subdirectories with the funny letter
names under Content.IE, but were not visible in the TIF list window. The
cookie settings are still at the default level. Some setting that effects
the visibility of files in that directory alone must have been changed
during the Ad-Aware purge of junk, but I can't seem to find out where it is.
None of the references seem to cover this problem

Does that trigger any ideas?

I don't have any idea what went wrong.
Sorry.

Hi, Mike,

I used "The Windows Method" and after a forever-wait, checked the folder.
Cookies were back as before and when I loaded a Web page that I knew well
since I wrote it, everything seemed to be back to normal. I was happy I
didn't have to go the more drastic route. Thanks for your help.
