Hello,
I did a new installation of Windows XP Prof. plus IE 6
and service pack 1. Then I visited windowsupdate and
applied the suggested patches and hotfixes. Following
this I installed Winzip, Yahoo messenger and companion
and finally Symantec Antivirus before putting my Outlook
emails and documents in to be protected from viruses.
After doing all this, I thought I had a 'safe' working
version of my desktop..but lo! whenever I tried to open a
new window in IE 6, it would close the existing window
and then open a new blank window. After doing all the dll
registrations for urlmon, mshtml etc as suggested on the
different bulletin boards, I was still unable to solve
this problem. But these readings helped me narrow down
the issue to these dlls which get replaced when you
install the patches and hotfixes (specially mshtml and
urlmon in 818529). I uninstalled patch 818529 through the
control panel and now my IE 6 installation works great
and new windows are opening properly.
My question: Patch 818529 is listed as critical. What
should I do? Is this a recognized issue and secondly, is
this got to do with Symantec NAV?
Thanks.
