IE6 and FTP sites

In W2000 using IE6 I am unable to access any FTP sites. I have changed the
obvious settings under the advanced tab in IE6 tools to no avail so I think
it might be a setting in W2000.

I don't know if this is related but I can access normal web sites OK but am
unable to PING any of them.

What is happening and how do I solve it?

Are you behind a firewall? On a corporate network? Typically IE has nothing
to do with blocking sites and the built in firewall does not stop outbound
traffic. I would suspect you have some 3rd party firewall running that is
blocking you or your network has FTP and Ping blocked by a corporate
firewall.....
