IE6 loads home page then IE6 immediately closes window

I have w2000 and IE6 both are upto date. I had been using IE and closed a pop
up window and I am not sure if I clicked the wrong location. When I started
the IE6 it would open and close before reading the home page. I then went to
the control panel/ Internet options/ programs and reset the browser settings.
Ie6 now opens and reads the home page but immediately closes. Do you have any
suggestions on how to make IE6 not close.

Thank you in advance

Those popups can be real buggers. If you don't close them exactly the
right way they'll consider that your click means "sure, do whatever you
want to my computer".

A better way to close suspicious popups is from Task Manager
(CTRL+ALT+DEL). Open the Applications tab and 'end task' on the popup
window.

Best of all is to avoid pop-ups altogether. Turn on IE's pop-up blocker
(or use a commercial program, if you prefer) and install protective
software, like an antispyware program and an ad blocker or other
filtering program.

For now, the first thing I would do is to see if you have a virus or
some other form of malware. As malware can be very difficult to detect
you'll want to scan your computer with several different scanners.
Here's one to start:

One suggestion that was already mentioned below, is to uninstall Yahoo Toolbar.
This worked for me.

In the last 2 days I have heard of 5 people, not connected in any way, that
are experiencing the same symptoms. What I did was Open IE properties and
change the home page to blank. I then reset all the defaults under Options
and removed any third party toolbars using Add Remove programs or removing
the check mark under Views, Toolbars
