IE6 and Acrobat

IE6 on my home computer opens Adobe .pdf files in Acrobat 7.0 Reader on a
separate window, not using the explorer interface.

My other computer's IE6 opens the same .pdf files in the explorer window
itself.
Both computers have Acrobat 7.0 reader, and I have tried to find where this
setting is changed in Internet Explorer.

I would prefer that both my computers function like the first example, but
as I said, I cannot find where to set IE6 to allow Acrobat to be what opens
the .pdf files.

Does anyone out there know where to set this??

Windows version of the problem machine? If WinXP, is SP2 installed?

Is Acrobat Reader fully up-to-date? See Help > Check for updates.

Acrobat Reader: Edit > Preferences > Internet > Web Browser Options > Is
"Display PDF in browser" checked?

Both machines have XP Pro with all the latest service packs. Both also have
Acrobat 7.0 reader

I will check if 7.02 update is installed in the office machine and if the
web browser settings are set correctly on Monday. This machine does have 7.02
and the browser settings correct.
Thanks for the response, I was not aware of the settings for the web browser
being in Acrobat instead of in Explorer. It is a good way for the
manufacturers to keep us confused.

This machine is the one that is working correctly, so I will make sure the
other unit's settings are the same as this one.

all updates are installed in my office system. When I unchecked the box in
acrobat (open pdf files in explorer) the pdf linkd do not open at all. The
popup blocker is turned off, but Acrobat does not open and the pdf file goes
nowhere

Acrobat just momentarily opens and then closes when I try to view a pdf
document in IE6, I do not know how to make it stay open. I have shut down all
popup blockesr, the firewall, and even installed all the new updates. I just
cannot open any pdf files while in explorer without Acrobat flashing on the
screen and shutting down

Any sugestions? (other than using firefox? :)

I have AVG antivirus, I disabled that too and Acrobat just comes up for a
brief moment and disappears. I can check for it to diaplay pdf files in
browser and it will open ok in IE, but when I uncheck the box for it to use
Acrobat 7.0 instead of the browser, it craps out like explained.

If you've installed Acrobat Read Update v7.0.2 and the problem persists, I
don't know what else you might try other than uninstalling Reader,
reinstalling it from a fresh download & then installing all available
updates via Help > Check for updates now.

Opening a PDF in the browser is controlled via Reader: Edit > Preferences >
Internet > Web browser options

PA Bear,

I completely removed and reinstalled Acrobat Reader with all the updates
with a complete cold boot and the problem went away. Thanks for the
suggestion, I must have had a corrupt file that did not affect the general
operation, only when it tried to interface with IE6

Again, thanks for the help.

Our community has a need for replies after things go well also, this is how
we learn from each other and what can be one of many possible solutions to a
problem.

I consider it a privilege to have access to such a large group of users and
their cumulative experience. I only hope I can return the favor to someone
one day.
