IE6.0 SP crashes randomly.

I've not used IE6.0 (SP1 or SP2) for a while and even now I'm using an IE
clone (SBC Yahoo Browser) to write this post.

Ever since I've updated my system from IE 5.5 to IE6.0 I've had problems
with it's reliability. IE crashes randomly at different intervalls, different
sites and during different taks. Instead of giving an error message, the
browser just stops responding and needs to be shut down.

I've tried enlarging the chache and clearing the cache. Weekly Trojan, Virus
or Spyware scans show no infections and the problem persists even after
installing SP2. So-called repairs are fruitless as they usually turn out an
error message with regards to a previous installation that could not be
completed.

Since IE cannot be uninstalled, and the 'overinstall' or repair ususally
fails, I'm not able to use IE at all.

As a budding web designer I use different browser and rely on a stable IE to
preview my web sites during development and after lauch.

Does anyone here have a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Hi meikel :)

You don't mention what type of conenction you have, dialup or
broadband.cable.dsl, etc. but, you might try the following if it applies and
see if it helps:

Power Management adjustments to stop connection loss

Start>Settings> Control Panel>Network and Dial-up Connections>Local Area
Connection>Properties>Configure>Power Management tab>uncheck "Allow the
computer to turn off this device to save power."

Also, take a look a the information here:

The Computer Stops Responding on Certain Web Pages

or...

Tools/internet options/advanced/Microsoft VM
.....only tick the JIT compiler box and leave the Java boxes un checked
(default)

and..

Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
Download J2SE v 1.4.2_06 JRE. (Make sure you get the JRE file, not the SDK
file, unless you are a software developer).
Install it.

IE shuts down without warning

Open an ms-dos prompt window (Start>Run>) and type the following (one entry
at a time), and press enter after each line. A message will appear stating
that these have been registered successfully.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

If the above does not resolve the problem then try this workaround:

Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab.
Under Browsing, uncheck the "Enable third-party browser extensions
(requires restart)" check box.
Click OK. And close IE

Do not restart your computer after performing the above steps.

Then open Internet Explorer and check if the problem is resolved. If it is,
then you have some form of malware, spyware or hijacker on our system,
therefore, do the following:

The bottom line is why can't we uninstall IE6? Why does it crash because of
any simple spyware? Why is it so dam complicated to correct? THe program
sucks and you can't get rid of it> MIcrosoft better do something!!!
