IE6.0 shuts down when I click on link inside webpage

XP w/latest IE6.0, recently discovered that when I open a webpage and attempt
to click on hyperlink within that page, I find myself immediately staring at
my desktop. I was amazed that I was able to open links within Microsoft's
site. I cannot see any of the messages posted within this discussion group
so, using different computer for this request for help.

I recently installed the Mozilla Firefox browser so, not sure if that has
created a browser war within my system or not! I removed Firefox from my
system but, the issue still exists. I would attempt to re-install IE6.0 but,
every time I try, it tells me that I already have the latest version so, it
ends the attempt! I would appreciate some advice!

Thanks,

Robert

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of

versions)

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Hi Indyguy25 :)

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html.
Download J2SE v 1.4.2_06 JRE. (Make sure you get the JRE file, not the SDK
file, unless you are a software developer).
Install it. Or, if you want the latest you can link to a download for the
J2SE
5.0 JRE here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Do you have the JavaScript plug-in installed?
http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=9567

also.

Go to Start>Run type in
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll (notice the space between 32 and urlmon)
Hit enter and ok out

also...

Running IEfix wont hurt, it will reset IE Search and Home pages to original
defaults.
Make sure you have shortcuts to your favorite sites.
IE Fix
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

May be a corrupt file in IE cache or java cache.

The TIF ( Temporary Internet Files) can also be emptied regularly, via:
Control Panel--Internet Options--General tab--"Delete Files",
Also tick the "delete all offline content" box .

Check in Internet Options--Adavanced tab, scroll down to "Java(Sun)" and
tick box for "Use Java....."

Hope this helps
