I am having trouble opening IE6SP1. Problem is shown as winshow.dll. details are

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: winshow.dl
ModVer: 1.0.0.6 Offset: 0000a95

Internet connection sharing, Outlook, outlook express, etc. function fine. Windows update and error reporting are stopped by this error. Please help!

Oscar,
From Control Panel> Internet Options> Advanced> uncheck "Enable third party
browser extensions."

That should allow IE to work. Then Run CWShredder from
http://www.net-integration.net/tools/hijackthis.html It will remove this
coolwebsearch
variant. CWShredder is only about 125 KB so it could be downloaded from
another machine onto a floppy disk if necessary.

You might also be able to browse and download programs from the address bar
of windows explorer.

Search for and remove other malware and note the security tips at:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

You should re-enable browser extensions after the cleanup.
