IE wont connect to sites after a few minutes

S

Steve R

I have XP Home, Comcast Internet.

When I first open an IE session everything is fine.
After maybe 10 minutes, with the same session of IE still
open, I can no longer connect to any website. The url at
the bottom of the screen turns from the text url of the
site to some IP address and nothing happens. If I close
IE and reopen everything is OK again

I ran Norton Antivirus, Adaware, restored my computer as
far back as the machine would let me (2 weeks) , and it
still happens. Machine is up to date on MS patches
too.

I am puzzled and am hoping it isn't going to be necessary
to reformat and start over !

Thanks for any help you can provide, Steve

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.
