Internet Explorer Does Not open sites after few minutes

Hi,
I recently upgraded to Windows XP-SP2 and after that, I started seeing this
problem.

1. I use DSL USB modem to connect to broadband
2. I start my machine, connect to internet, then open Yahoo Messenger &
Internet Explorer
3. I start chating with friends, at the same time open an Internet site
using IE, site opens fine the first time I open IE and browse
4. After few minutes (any time after 1 or 2 minutes) IE stops opening any
more sites...I hit refresh, the same page which got opened few minutes back
also stops refreshing...
5. I get the error "The page cannot be displayed" and at the bottom "Cannot
find server or DNS Error"
6. However, my internet connection is still active, still can continue
chating with my friend and I still have the IP assigned by the service
provider, however, IE does not co-operate at all
7. Got panicked, rebooted the machine, then connected back to Internet,
followed the same steps...again IE stops opening sites after few minutes...

Really not sure what is causing IE to behave like this. I have read hundreds
of posts all over the net for this problem, but unfortunately, wherever I go,
I just get the problem, but no proper solution. Even this News Group had few
posts, but unlucky and unsuccessful in resolving the issue.

Experts...please help me. Otherwise, I had to take my decision to dump
XP-SP2 for the time being.

Thanks and regards,
Siva

My boss had perhaps similar problem. His IE stoppew working after about ten
minutes using IE for browsing. He could still use other network services. We
managed to fix the problem, although we are not sure what was the excact
reason for that behaviour. Anyway, in our case problems started when
uninstalling VPN software. Uninstalling seemed to work smoothly, but it left
some network related stuff partially installed. I think there were
customized version of Zone Alarm, which was reason for problems. It worked
about that ten minutes and then blocked all access to any web site using
standard HTTP port 80. Because uninstall didn't work, I searched windows
registry and removed some device drivers. After reboot, everything worked
again.

So your problems could also be related to corrupted firewall. If you have
any, and you should have, try to reinstall it.

First eliminate any spyware.

CAUTION!!!!! Removing some spyware can damage the Winsock stact. Before
you try to remove spyware using any of these programs , download a copy of

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

Frank,

Thanks for the response.
1. I was pretty sure that there is no spyware on my machine (because all I
did after connecting to Net is to download and install SP2).
2. And the problem started immediately after SP2 is installed
3. Rest of all the steps look a lot zargon to me and when I looked around
internet for possible causes for this behavior...I got only SP2 as the culprit
4. Now, I un-installed SP2. Wonderful to share with you all that, after I
did this step, I am just back to normal and browsing at cruising speeds
without any IE problems.

Hope Microsoft will take this feedback and put something on their website
about this problem related to SP2

Cheers,
Siva

Quite often malware that is already on the computer will cause SP2 to act up
even though it was transparent before.

Can you narrow down the sites that are most important please?

I have the exact same problem as Siva, only it's a wireless connection with
an Acer Travelmate 800 that is faulty. I tried the support, and the only
thing that might have looked like a solution was this.....

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo...nam.com&central=1&words=all&keywords=&pupv=pu

I'm not sure it's exactly my situation here, but it seems close enough. It's
not that my connection is a cyclic up-down thing, it's more of a up, then
dropping indefinately whenever I start up my laptop.
