IE Spyware pop ups

I set up my PC, visited a few web sites, then updated the
Criticals, Virus Definitions and AdAware. I can be in the
browser out on the Web when a pop up with Microsoft
Internet Explorer across the top prompts me that me PC
could be running slow because of spyware and would I like
to download an application to keep my PC safe. I x out of
the pop up and a small dialogue box opens saying "Wrong
Answer: click yes to download." I've recleaned and checked
all my updates but this stays in my PC. Would Microsoft be
putting this in on purpose? If so, how do I turn it off?
If it's not Microsoft, any ideas why it is escaping
detection?

I suggest installing the google toolbar. It contains a
free popup blocker that works very well. Even if spyware
doesn't exist on your system you will still get popup ads
unless you load a program that prevents them.

Don't visit those sites that use popups, or get a popup blocker.
