IE Opening Two Browser Windows on One Click

Everytime I single-click a URL or the IE icon, two IE windows open sequentially. The first one to open is empty. The second one has the correct URL page. Can anyone suggest a way to cause IE to open just one browser window

Sounds like your file type associations for certain URL protocols
may be bad. Try an IE Repair. (see MSKB 194177 or 831429)

If you're lucky this command might be sufficient:

regsvr32 /i shdocvw.dll

Note: I suggest closing at least all IE and OE windows before doing
the regsvr32 commands. A full repair results in a reboot.
