IE Illegal Operation-Invalid Instruction

Leon

After upgrade from IE5.5 to IE6 in Windows 98, reboot
failed. Error message received:
Explorer
This program has performed an illegal operation and will
be shut down. Details: "Explorer executed an invalid
instruction in module BEOWSEUI.DLL at 15f:7116eeed",
etc. Reloaded Windows 98 but same result. Tried
repairing IE per Microsoft website instructions but
Repair Explorer option said it couldn't be repaired
and "Please run Setup again to reinstall all
components." Details: Version 5.50.4919.2200 of file
MSHTML.DLL exists but the version needs to be greater
than 6.0.281100". Several similar lines.
Also, the "restore to previous Windows configuration" was
grayed out. Any help?

This was answered in another newsgroup.

If you must post identical messages in more than one newsgroup please
crosspost, i.e. please place all of the newsgroups in the Newsgroup field of
one message, separated by commas. That way when someone reads the message
in one newsgroup it will be marked as read in all of them. In addition, an
answer posted in one newsgroup will generally show up in all of them.

This is usually not necessary since most of those who answer posts read
more than one newsgroup.
