ie illegal operation

running windows 98 open up internet explorer and i get a
message that ie has proformed and illegal operation and
asks me if i want to send the information to microsoft.
but won't let me click no i have to click yes and then it
shuts down. anyone know what this is???? and how to fix
it. i get it everytime i open up ie. i think i have ie6
but not sure

A very common cause of errors is viruses. I'd first
recommend scanning with an up-to-date virus scanner.

Next, and it may not be your problem, but it can't hurt.
Try clearing your history, cookies and the cache. To do
this, click the 'Tools' menu, then the 'Internet Options'
item. Click the 'Delete Files' button, select the 'Delete
All Offline Content' box then click OK. After that has
finished, click the 'Delete Cookies' button and click OK.
Finally, click the 'Clear History' button and click Yes.
