IE performed illegal op and will be shut down

On one of my Win 98 SE machines, IE 6 no longer opens.
Upon clicking on the icon, a little window (pop up box) and says "IE
performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."

I reinstalled it but still get the same results.
Any ideas?

There's usually a "Details" button that will show some specific error information

Sometimes errors are related to hardware failures, corrupted files, and missing files

You can also try the IE repair tool under the Add/Remove Programs

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
