IE Hangs on load....For about 10 mins...

Suddenly whenever i try to start IE it loads up the window
but then stops and hangs for about 10 mins, before resuming
normal functionality. This happens for each window i open,
and doesn't have anything to do with my homepage.

This is especially frustrating since programs like mcafee
use IE for their menus, and so they also hang on startup.

I have all windows updates installed and am running XP prof
SP1.

I did a full virus scan and shutdown all non-critical
processes and still no luck.

clear all your temp internet files, cookies and history. IE indexs all these
when loading up so if there are loads it will slow it down. If still haivng
problems have a look on the web for info on deleting you index.dat file this
may be corrupt

I already tried cleaning the index.dat files.. (Which
microsoft still hasn't adequately explained why they exist...)

No luck :(
Any ideas?

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab.
You may also have to set the Home Page to about:blank

Then eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
