IE hangs, no error message just hangs.

I'm pretty sure its IE 6, I can't go to help>about, It never opens. When I
open IE it hangs, no page opens, no error. When I go to property of IE, I can
select all tabs except connections, when I select it application stops
responding. In command window I can ping address. The globe in the upper
right hand corner is spining. Unfortunatly I can not update windows nor my
A/V. Can anybody help?

I just saw a post in reference to winsock fix. I will try that out. I wonder
what would have compromised my system.

Hmmm the winsockfix.exe did not help. Any help out there would be
appreciated.

(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post

Thanks PA Bear. I did run HJT and posted log. everything seemed to be in
order. I ran other virus scans no luck. It is a win2k server machine. I will
go through the links you have provided.
